Occupational Health & Safety

Each year around 200 workers are killed in work-related accidents in the UK, and a further 100 members of the public are killed in accidents related to work (excluding railway deaths).  On average a quarter of a million workers are also injured at work and about 1.2 million suffer from ill health caused or made worse by work.

According to the most recent HSE report on the topic (Discussion Paper 002; 2008), the total cost to employers in Britain of workplace injuries and work-related ill health is estimated at approximately £2.9 billion to £3.2 billion (example year 2005/06).
