Whilst it is not a legal requirement to have an aspects and impacts register, if you are working towards ISO 14001 or already have a formal Environmental Management System (EMS) in place, it is one of the core infrastructure documents of the system.
A register is a very useful document when establishing an EMS, as it helps to identify legislation applicable to operations, determine risks and opportunities associated with operations and thus identify where control measures need to be put into place. It therefore needs to be accurate and comprehensive.
